Package content

• Request form
• Tube with cotton swab (2x)
• Instruction leaflet
• Pipette
• Spatula
• Urine tube
• Plastic bag

This package enables you to take a:

• urine sample
• anal swab
• throat swab

Preparation

1. Check

• Check your data on the request form. Please contact your GP/physician if any data is incorrect or missing.
• Note the test date and time on the request form.

! Please note: this form is valid for 13 months only from the moment it is handed to you by your GP/physician.

2. Hygiene

• Wash your hands thoroughly.

3. Tubes

• Remove the tubes with the pink lid from the package.
• Write ‘anus’ on the one tube and ‘throat’ on the other.

! Please note:

• Do not open the tubes yet

Taking a sample | Urine

Introduction

• Wait for at least an hour after your last urination.
• Use a clean jar.

1. Collect your urine

• Collect the first stream of urine in the jar.
• Carry on passing urine into the toilet.  

2. Open the tube

• Take the tube with the olive green lid.
• Twist off the lid.

! Important: Do not remove the contents of the tube.

3. Fill up the pipette

• Squeeze the top of the pipette.
• Stick the tip of the pipette into the urine jar.
• Stop squeezing: the pipette will fill up with urine.

4. Squeeze urine from pipette into the tube

• Stick the pipette into the tube.
• Squeeze the top of the pipette.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 untill the tube is filled up to the top edge of the sticker.

5. Close the tube

• Place the lid onto the tube and press the lid to fasten.

Taking a sample | Swabs

Introduction

• Use a separate cotton swab for each body area.

1. Open the tube

• Place the tube in an upright position, without the lid.

! Important: do not remove the contents of the tube.

2a. Throat swab

• Take out the cotton swab from the tube with ‘throat’ label.

! Important: Only touch the middle of the cotton swab.

• Hold down your tongue with the spatula in order to expose the back of the throat.
• Using the cotton swab, take a sample of the tonsils and the back of the throat.

2b. Anal swab

• Take out the cotton swab from the tube with the ‘anus’ label.

! Important: Only touch the middle of the cotton swab.

• Stand up in a comfortable position.
• Pull one of your buttocks aside.

• Insert the cotton swab about 3 cm into the anus.
• Twist the cotton swab carefully 5 times.
• Remove the cotton swab from your anus.

3. Insert the swab into the tube

• Place the cotton swab into the tube until it touches the bottom.

4. Snap the cotton swab in two

• Snap the cotton swab in two at the break-off lip.

5. Close the tube

• Place the lid onto the tube and turn to the right to fasten.

! Important: the cotton swab should now be in a fixed position.

Submitting your samples

1. Pack up the tubes

• Place all tubes in the bag.
• Place the bag (with tubes) in the cardboard box.

2. Submit your sample

• Bring your sample to one of our stations*, within 24 hours.
• Hand over the box (with your samples) to the employee who also takes your blood samples.

! If you’re unable to submit the sample within 24 hours then please preserve it in your fridge for a period up to 3 days.

* Go to www.rhmdc.nl/locaties for an overview of our locations. Use the appointment type filter “afspraaktype”: Bloedafname (+materiaal inleveren). An appointment may be required at the location of your choice. In that instance, a red button at the top of the location details will indicate “Uitsluitend op afspraak”.  

If you normally have blood drawn at your GP, you can also go there.

Make sure to bring:

• The bag containing the tubes.
• The request form.
• A valid ID.
