You received the STD test kit swab from your GP/doctor.
- Request form
- Barcode sheet
- Tube with cotton swab (eSwab)

- Shipping envelope

Preparation
1. Check
- Check your data on the request form. Please contact your GP/physician if any data is incorrect or missing. If necessary complete your data on the form.
- Note the test date and time on the request form.
2. Hygiene
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
3. Sticking on the barcode labels
- Stick the ‘Voorzijde formulier’ barcode sticker onto the request form.
- Remove the tube from the package.
- Write on the tube label: anal, vaginal or throat swab.
- Stick the ‘A divers materiaal’ barcode label onto the tube.
!Important:
- Stick the barcode label onto the tube as shown in the illustration
- Do not open the tube yet
Taking a sample | Swab
Introduction
Your GP or physician will tell you which sample to take.
! Use a seperate cotton swab for each body area.
1. Open the tube
- Place the tube in an upright position, without the lid.
! Important: do not remove the contents of the tube.
2a. Throat swab
- Remove the cotton swab from the tube on which you’ve written ‘Throat’.
! Important: Only touch the middle of the cotton swab.
- Hold down your tongue in order to expose the back of the throat.
- Using the cotton swab, take a sample of the tonsils and the back of the throat.
2b. Anal swab
- Remove the cotton swab from the tube on which you’ve written ‘Anus’.
! Important: Only touch the middle of the cotton swab.
- Stand up in a comfortable position.
- Pull one of your buttocks aside.
- Insert the cotton swab about 3 cm into the anus.
- Twist the cotton swab carefully 3 times.
2c. Vaginal swab
- Remove the cotton swab from the tube on which you’ve written ‘Vagina’.
! Important: Only touch the middle of the cotton swab.
- Stand up in a comfortable position, like you would when inserting a tampon.
- Insert the corron swab about 5 cm into the vagina.
- Twist the cotton swab carefully 5 times.
After the test
3. Insert the swab into the tube
- Place the cotton swab into the tube until it touches the bottom.
4. Snap the cotton swab in two
- Snap the cotton swab in two at the break-off lip.
5. Close the tube
- Place the lid onto the tube and turn to the right to fasten.
! Important: the cotton swab should now be in a fixed position.
Wrap and send
1. Pack up the tubes
- Place the tubes in the white bag.
- Insert the white bag containing the tubes into the plastic bag (Safetybag).
- Seal the Safetybag.
- Put the Safetybag into the box.
- Close the box.
2. Pack up the shipping envelope
- Insert the box into the shipping envelope.
- Insert the request form into the envelope.
- Seal the envelope.
3. Ship your test package
- Mail your package on the same day of taking your sample.
! Important:
- Make sure you post your package before the mailbox is emptied.
- If you’re unable to submit the sample on the same day, you may keep it in the fridge but only for a period of up to 3 days.
- The envelope is ready for mailing, with the required postage stamps attached.
